What is golden yellow pheasant?

The Golden Yellow Pheasant, also known as the Lady Amherst's Pheasant, is a quite distinct and beautiful bird that belongs to the pheasant family of birds. They are native to southwestern China and northern Myanmar. The Golden Yellow Pheasant features a vibrant mix of colors that include orange, green, blue, and black with a golden-yellow band around the neck.

These pheasants are medium-sized birds with a length that ranges from 60 to 70 cm and weighed between 430 and 800 g depending on the gender. The male is more colorful in appearance with the long tail feathers having a glossy quality with green and black markings which can bear almost the shape of a fan. The female, on the other hand, is smaller and less colorful with a brownish-grey plumage with some striping.

Golden Yellow Pheasants are omnivorous birds and tend to feed on various berries, fruits, seeds, and insects. They are shy birds that can be kept as pets, but require lots of space for their comfort, such as aviaries. They are very active birds that require perches enabling them to fly and climb, as well as providing them with plenty of foliage to mimic their natural habitat.

In the wild, they are threatened by habitat destruction, hunting, and trapping, and are considered a near-threatened species. Several conservation programs have been implemented to protect the species from extinction. Additionally, they are bred in captivity for the pet trade and ornamental purposes.
